A Welcome from Our Chairman

Our Newick Branch is understandably small but at our AGM held last October we were committed to :

1.    Continue as far as possible to raise funds for the Poppy Fund,  now more heavily committed to the welfare of Service personnel returning injured from Afghanistan

2.    To maintain contact with housebound members and widows in Newick.  Many are visited regularly by our Branch Chaplain and other members.

3.    To appeal for new members. It is NOT now necessary to have served in the Forces to become a member, and any one who agrees with the principles and policy of the Legion (Motto “ Service before self”) will be made very welcome.

4.    Contact can be made with :

Our President   Brigadier Denys Begbie  722435

Our Chairman   Dennis Baker    723834

Our Secretary    Ken Farmer  722061

Our Treasurer    Geoff Manvell   722732

The media spotlight on Afghanistan and in particular the latest “push”  in Helmand brings home to us the constant  steady stream of casualties  coming home.  However a new initiative  will put the Royal British Legion to the forefront of caring for our injured personnel.

RBL is investing £20million along with other Forces charities such as Help for Heroes, in four Personnel Recovery Centres in Colchester, Tidworth,, Catterick, and Edinburgh where Service personnel can be cared for by specialist teams as they recover from their injuries., and will be helped to prepare for return to Service life or to make a fresh start in civilian life.

Dennis Baker, Chairman, Newick Branch, Royal British Legion
